You Are Home are extremely proud to have shared the news that we have been shortlisted for this year's The Business Desk's North West Business Masters Awards!

This was our first ever award application and to be shortlisted, alongside so many successful North West businesses is amazing. This shows the hard work and dedication of our team and the incredible journey we have been on in the first 2 years of the company. In saying this we thought we would share our application in which we reflected on the You Are Home journey…

“You Are Home (YAH) started as a crazy idea, sparked by our Managing Director’s own personal experiences working away from home as well as that of his friends. He spotted a gap in the market for a product that combines all the convenience of a hotel with the comfort of your own home, all the while being exclusive for corporate use. YAH seized this gap in the market and the rapid growth of the company alludes to a previously unknown need for the style of accommodation. It was demonstrating the benefits of Serviced Apartments to clients that was the initial challenge, but as this became apparent our popularity began to rise.

YAH was born just over 2 years ago in January of 2019 and from then has seen tremendous growth and positive response from a variety of industries. With a particular success in production, by July apartment numbers had increased to 175 with 100% occupancy, constantly taking on further units to keep up with demand. August saw the first key celebrity guests, with YAH rising to the occasion to provide a safe and secure home from home for VIPs. We now frequently house high-profile guests and have a reputation in both sports and production for our 5 stars, on-hand service. A key appeal of YAH being our adaptability enabling us to meet the needs of individual clients.

It was in 2020 that YAH, much like many other companies across the country, faced some tough challenges. When the pandemic hit, the travel industry was halted, and we faced this in our 14th month of business. In this time YAH had to regroup and rebuild. When June came we were ready with new COVID policies and procedures and kept them under constant review. We successfully put people’s minds at ease and provided a COVID safe environment for those who needed to travel for essential business. Despite these challenges, we came back stronger with 130 apartments across 3 separate buildings in Manchester and Salford Quays, plus a building used as a filming location. Not only this but we are now on track to expand into Liverpool this year.

As a company with health and wellbeing at the forefront, we create a home-from-home experience and encourage companies to consider workforce wellness by selecting us to accommodate their staff. This is a topic that was all the more apparent during the pandemic, we enhanced our services to include additional support for guests having to isolate. A group of friendly, familiar faces, our host team gets to know our guests and always ensures that they feel they can reach out for support at any time. This is reflected in our impressive client loyalty.

A key challenge for YAH is learning about our carbon footprint and how we as a growing business can keep our environmental promises. In 2020 we implemented a sustainability policy, with the goal of becoming Carbon Neutral.

We are constantly evolving as a company, reviewing our environmental impact, sustainability, and social responsibility. Taking steps both big and small, we strive to be a sustainable home from home. Through such training as the Albert Sustainable Production Certification, we are expanding our knowledge and learning how to minimise our impact on the environment. On our journey so far we have managed to reduce our emissions by keeping staff travel as low as possible, focussing on long-term guest stays,  reducing paper usage, using environmentally friendly products, and local businesses with good ethical commitments. We also actively prevent unnecessary energy usage within apartments and ensure that we always donate any food unwanted items left in apartments to avoid waste.

In total we have just 21 employees working for YAH, a small tight-knit team working collaboratively to provide the home from home experience. As the only Serviced Apartment provider in the North West to be certified by the Living Wage Foundation, we take pride in being a Living Wage employer. You Are Home not only prioritise the wellbeing of our guests, but also our own employees by voluntarily rising above the benchmark for the cost of living.

At You Are Home we believe that every single employee’s efforts make the company the success that it is. It has been a tough year for the company, and we couldn’t have made it through the pandemic without the dedication of every single employee, and they deserve to be rewarded accordingly. We are like a family and as such, it is important to us that we offer not just the minimum, but a fair living wage that reflects all their hard work and commitment.”
