You might be asking yourself, with Manchester now firmly in Tier 3 for the rest of December, what can you and your household do to get that Christmassy feeling? Well, not to worry the Holidays aren’t completely cancelled, here are some festive activities for this quarantine filled Christmas.

Take a tour of the Christmas lights around the city. This is a good way to get out the house, whilst also adhering to government guidelines. The main sights to see are the giant Santa, currently based In St Peters Square alongside a lit-up Manchester bee. Other great spots are Piccadilly Gardens, St Ann’s Square and New Cathedral Street where you’ll find a vast array of large light sculptures.

You can even get a festive treat, if you are after a hot chocolate to warm you up during your outdoor, socially distanced activities, Black Milk are located on Oldham Street. These Instagram worthy creations, include a range of dessert topped milkshakes as well as hot beverages to takeaway. All these sights are within walking distance from the You Are Home Manchester accommodations in Ancoats, Northern Quarter and Spinningfields.

Sound too chilly? Here is some our indoor activity inspiration for you and your household, to liven up your ‘quarantine Christmas’. Most importantly of all these can all be done at home in your pyjamas, (Christmas style optional and heavily suggested).

1.     Bake some Gingerbread men, these treats and fun, festive not to mention delicious. You can get creative with shapes and decorations, it doesn’t just have to be a traditional stick figure, you could carve anything out of the dough like trees, snowmen, baubles, or if you’re feeling ambitious, a whole house! 2.     How about trying to make your own Mulled wine, adults only for this one. Click here for a recipe-

3.     Host a virtual party via the video chat platform of your choosing. We are all pros at Zoom by now, so organise a get together. Although we can’t be with all the people we would like to be this Christmas, through the power of technology at least you can see them. Here is our guide on how to host a fun virtual Christmas party.

-       First of all, everyone must be dressed for the occasion, with at least one item of Christmas clothing, be that a festive jumper, Santa hat or full on costume.

-       Make sure your background is as seasonal as possible, with lights and tinsel and definitely aim for the tree to be in frame.

-       A quiz, a Christmas quiz is a tradition! You could make your own, or save yourself some time and use these. Combine this quiz of 2020 with this ultimate Christmas quiz for the perfect mixture that is ideal for everyone to get involved in. ( )( )

-       A scavenger hunt, get people moving by giving everyone a list of clues of household items. Then once all the clues have been told, allow a period of time for the hunt, whoever comes back with the most correct items wins! Here are some clue suggestions-

-       Set a Christmas challenge… who can make the best paper snowflake? Or tell everyone to wrap an item in the most obscure way possible and make the rest of you try and guess what is inside. The more random and silly the challenge the better.

For our YAH guests, be sure to make the most of the array of amazing on-site amenities, just give us a call for any suggestions. If you’re one of our Angel Gardens guests, you can grab some snacks and have a cosy movie day in the Cinema room.

To book just get in touch with guest services by ringing us or you can pop us an email…

We may be in Tier 3 until the New Year, but they can’t stop our Christmas cheer!
